Piano is a great instrument choice for anyone looking to have the instant gratification of making music with relative ease. Unlike other instruments, piano students are able to sit down at their instrument from day one and play something that sounds like a song!
For beginners, we start by learning the basics of finger numbers, hand positions, rhythm, the musical alphabet, and posture. From there, we move quickly into reading music using Standard Music Notation.
Your teacher will assess your proficiency level and determine what book series will be best for you. Students are more motivated to practice if they like the music. Therefore, we aim to find songs the student enjoys and incorporate them into a weekly practice routine.
If you don’t own a piano, that’s OK! Digital keyboards are often a cheaper and perfectly suitable alternative for families that are not sure if they want to invest in an acoustic piano at this time. We recommend consulting us about your buying options and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction when purchasing equipment.
